Terminal velocities of drops of organic liquids of diameter 0.0726 to 0.7256 cm in polymer solutions are determined. The Reynolds number range covered is 0.1 to 103. Visual observations on the shapes and oscillations of drops are reported. A correlation for the terminal velocity data is presented.

Flow behaviour of time-dependent bentonite-water suspensions

Many time-dependent non-Newtonian fluids exhibit multi-consistency character under varying shear rate conditions. In the present investigation bentonite suspensions, which offer a wide scope for such an analysis, have been taken and their flow behaviour subjected to an analysis in the light of the experimental facts gathered in pipe flow system and in a rheometer. These suspensions exhibit a time-variant behaviour in their flow motion appropriate to the shear rate conditions. Correlations have been obtained to relate the friction factor and the parameter of the fluid which is given by [τw/τ0 1 2]. A five-parameter model has been proposed for the apparent viscosity. © 1972.

Drag reduction characteristics of polyacrylamide additives

Experimental studies of pressure drop versus flow rate for dilute (polyacrylamide) polymer solution in different tube diameters have revealed the effect of tube diameter on the polymer parameter (π). An empirical relation for predicting the slope (Sp) on the Prandtl-Von Karman plot is also given. © 1974.
