Boat tail effect of a payload fairing on the elastic displacement response

A three-noded triangular plate and shell element and three-dimensional beam element are used for the free vibration analysis of a typical 4-m-diam payload fairing for different boat tail angles. The configuration without the boat tail is found to be very flexible compared to the configurations with a boat tail structural element. Boat tail angle has an increasing effect on the natural frequencies.
