Abstract
In this study, corrosion-resistant surface-modified biometals were developed by coating titanium-tantalum alloy thin films onto titanium substrates, followed by anodization. These films were systematically investigated for their crystal structure, morphology, and microstructure. Electrochemical studies were carried out in 0.9% NaCl, PBS, and SBF. EIS data was evaluated using equivalent circuit models and a physical model is proposed to describe the corrosion process. The polarization resistance values suggest that the anodized Ti-Ta thin film alloy possesses favorable corrosion resistance properties, thereby indicating its potential for use in orthopedic applications.
