Abstract
Optical absorption, luminescence, and polarized luminescence studies are made on RbI:Pb2+ from 4.7 to 50 K. It is found that the charge compensating vacancy is predominantly in the next‐nearest neighbour sites at these temperatures. The B‐band shows a splitting and the emission under B‐band excitation disappears around 20 K. Possible crossing of 3T2u and 3Eu levels with 1A1g is suggested to explain the behaviour.
