Abstract
Far a rigorous analysis of tilting pad journal bearing, the thermal and elastic effects on the bearing performance have to be considered. This paper analyses a large tilting pad journal bearing by considering thermal and elastic effects on the static performance characteristics The analysis is based on the simultaneous solution of Reynolds equation, Energy equation and Elastic equation iteratively. The static performance characteristics like minimum oil film thickness, friction coefficient, oil film temperature, oil flow and frictional power loss have been analysed for different cases ai L/D ratios, journal speeds and loading configurations Results show that the thermal and elastic effects in a tilting pad journal bearing ha the a strong influence an static performance characteristics.
