Abstract
Thermal parameters, glass transition temperature (Tg) and activation energy (Eg) for structural relaxation, are reported for the binary phosphate glasses, xLi2O-(100-x)P2O5 (40≤x≤66.7), prepared by usual melt-quenching and twinroller rapid quenching techniques. The Tg and Eg values are further used to calculate the fragility index (m) to quantify the thermodynamic strength of the glass samples. It is established using the fragility index that the glasses become progressively fragile with an increase in the modifier concentration owing to the reduction of covalent character of the glass matrix. © 2012 American Institute of Physics.
