Abstract
The high temperature fire-side corrosion of boiler tube material namely 2.25Cr-1Mo steel is analyzed with the help of thermodynamic phase stability diagrams and electrochemical potentials. The thermodynamic analyses of various systems such as Fe-S-O, Cr-S-O, K-S-O and Fe-Cl-O have been carried out to understand the mechanism of hot corrosion of 2.25Cr-1Mo steel. Corrosion maps correlating the activity of corrosive components and the electrochemical potential are developed and presented. These corrosion maps can be successfully used for the analysis of hot corrosion processes which are essentially electrochemical reactions.
