Abstract
Today, every industry has embraced digital technologies in some form, as they provide opportunities for organizations to drive innovation and positive changes (e.g., productivity, incremental revenue, and customer-centricity). However, there has been a debate about the efficacy of technologies in creating business value. A part of the problem lies in technologies not living up to the initial hype, while the other depends on the organization’s readiness to adopt technology. Therefore, assessing organizational readiness for technology adoption has been a subject of intense scrutiny for several years, both from the industry and academia. In this study, we review extant literature, look for common patterns of readiness assessments, and cull-out a common set of factors used, along with the best practices/methods adopted, based on which, we develop a common framework for technology readiness. In doing so, our study serves two key objectives; first, it helps readers understand the role of assessing technology readiness across industries. Secondly, it enables both researchers and practitioners with a standard framework for assessment, which could then be adapted for any technology and industry with minimum modification.
