Abstract
To examine if cynical attitudes predict unethical behaviors, a vignette study was undertaken to assess the ethical intentions of Indian managers under various circumstances. Cynicism-the belief that others are engaging in unethical acts or that unethical behavior is common or normal-has been found to predict unethical intentions. The study is an empirical evidence of the hypothesis that general and organizational cynicism influence ethical intentions. Findings also suggest that the level of a manager in an organization moderates the relationship between his cynical attitudes and the ethicality of his intentions.
