Abstract
Production function and linear stage models are limited in their abilities to explain the realities of firm-level technological changes (TCs) in developing countries. This paper attempts a brief, but critical, examination of these two models and proposes a new conceptual framework for representing TCs under different industrial settings in developing countries. The framework should be useful in understanding the dynamics of TCs and aid better planning for and effective utilization of scarce resources by firms in developing countries.
