Abstract
Design and development of passive radio frequency identification (RFID) tag is presented for wireless fracture toughness measurement on metals. The antenna was progressively optimized using Finite element method (FEM) based 3D Electromagnetic (EM) simulation software. The tag antenna (56 × 26 mm2 was fabricated on a 1.57 mm thick RT/duroid 5870 substrate and characterized on compact tension (CT) specimen. Experimental verification of the numerical simulations demonstrates that the proposed tag antenna exhibits excellent impedance matching with the RFID chip over 860-960 MHz
