Structural damping and free vibration response of a cantilever beam with an edge crack

To control vibration damping is provided by external devices. However, the material itself will offer certain amount damping due to internal friction and local plastic deformation. The latter will be predominant in the case of vibration of beams with defects and cracks. The free vibration behaviour of a cantilever beam with an edge crack at the fixed end, and with structural damping has been analyzed using fracture mechanics approach.
