Abstract
The corrosion behavior of Ti and Zr in varying concentrations of acidic fluoride media was studied. Corrosion current was estimated using Tafel extrapolation of potentiodynamic polarization data and polarization resistance was estimated using potentiodynamic polarization, linear polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopic data. The effect of various species formed due to the HF dissociation to the corrosion current was estimated using linear regression analysis. HF-2 and HF are the species which impact the corrosion of Ti and Zr. The results show that in pure HF solutions, Ti offers better corrosion resistance than Zr.
