Abstract
In this paper a detailed model of a single-machine infinite-bus system with Static Var Compensator for low-frequency oscillation studies is developed. Using this model a new method of designing additional controller known as SVC stabilizer to suppress the low-frequency oscillations of the system is presented. The design procedure, besides exactly assigning the two poles corresponding to the mechanical modes of the system to the specified location uses the extra design freedom available in the stabilizer parameters to shift all the other unassigned poles of the system to a stable region. This guarantees stability of the closed-loop system during the design stage itself. © 1989 Hemisphere Publishing Corporation.
