Personal computer based cardiac monitor

This paper describes the design of an add-on card for a personal computer for data acquisition and diagnosis of electrocardiograms. It can function both as a bedside monitor and as a central monitor. As a bedside monitor it can display three out of 12 channels of information simultaneously from a 12 LEAD system. As a central monitor it can display information simultaneously from eight channels. Software for the detection and display of QRS amplitude, QRS and RR intervals in real time has been developed. This program is based on the sum of derivatives method and it can detect about ten arrhythmias. Also a program for offline processing for the determination of other parameters such as PP, PR and QT intervals has been developed. This program can detect 20 different arrhythmias. © 1992.
