Abstract
Measurements have been made on the growth of the F band with X‐irradiation time at room temperature on RbCl and RbBr crystals. The first stage of the F‐centre growth curve has been found to consist of at least three sub‐stages. Thermoluminescence studies show two peaks at 85and 110 °C in RbCl which have been attributed to F‐centres. In Cd‐doped crystals an additional peak at 145 °C has been observed which has been assigned to centres involving cadmium. This assignment has been supported by the results on EPR of these crystals which gives a hyperfine structure constant of ≈ 3600 G. Additive coloration of Cd‐doped crystals also yields the Cd+ band due to the capture of electrons by Cd2+. Copyright © 1973 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA
