Abstract
Crystallization process in fast ion conducting glasses 0.50 AgI- 0.33 Ag2O-0.17V2O5 has been investigated by means of X-ray diffraction, conductivity and diffusion using radioactive tracer. It has been found that during the crystallization process, the conductivity of the glassy sample, initially increases with temperature and after reaching a maximum value, decreases. The increase in conductivity at the initial stages of crystallization can be explained by the presence of high conduction path of the glass crystal interface. The diffusion studies reveal that the diffusion coefficient of the crystalline sample is nearly one order of magnitude less than that for the corresponding glassy sample in agreement with the conductivity studies on the glass and the resulting glass ceramic on crystallization.
