Abstract
The paper presents results from experimental investigations of wave loads acting on and response of an oscillating cylinder in regular waves. The test cylinder consists of different segments of 10cm diameter in which one of the segments is connected to a sensitive two component force transducer. Only in-line oscillations were allowed. Hydrodynamic coefficients of the oscillating cylinder have been derived from the measured sectional forces and in-line motions of the cylinder, using relative velocity form of the Morison equation and water particle kinematics from linear and Stokes' V order wave theories. Reynolds number was in the range of 1 × 104 - 5 × 104 and Keulegan carpenter number 0.4-12. Validation of the hydrodynamic coefficients derived has been done by comparing measured response with analytical predictions.
