Abstract
Antifriction materials containing Fe,Cu,Pb, and MoS2 with Sn additions have been developed using a conventional powder metallurgy technique by sintering at 800°C, 850°C & 900°C for 30min. The mechanical and antifrictional properties improved with the addition of Sn up to 1.75w/o and deteriorated with further additions. Dimensional change was least in the alloys with 1.75w/o Sn addition, irrespective of the sintering temperature. The hardness level was a maximum (254VHN) for the samples containing 1.75w/o Sn sintered at 850°C. Minimum friction coefficients of 0.13, 0.08 and 0.12, and wear rates of 0.77, 2.82 and 6.18 * E-09 mm3/m were obtained at PV values of 0.58, 0.76 and 2.68 MPa.m/s respectively, for samples containing 1.75 w/o Sn sintered at 850°C.
