Abstract
The paper is concerned with the dynamic analysis of buoyant elastic framed structures using an integrated stiffness model which includes the buoyancy-gravity effects. The generalised beam stiffness model that includes geometric stiffness terms due to linearly varying axial force is incorporated in a finite element code which then is capable of providing rigid buoyant model on the one extreme and an elastic model on the other extreme. The integrated model provides for both elastic and buoyancy effects. The numerical technique is applied to the examples of a guyed offshore tower and a bi-articulated riser column to bring out the importance of proper modeling of buoyancy-gravity effects in such systems. The generalised beam stiffness will enhance nonlinear modeling of buoyant elastic systems.
