Abstract
The effect of the asymmetric boundary layer on the development of the round turbulent jet is studied numerically by simulating the round jet using LES sub-model. The asymmetric boundary layer is generated by using asymmetric contracting profile within the nozzle. Numerical simulations are carried out for the Reynolds numbers in the range of 4, 000 to 8, 000. It is observed that the asymmetric boundary layer enhances the jet mixing and there by enhances the decay rate in the near-field region. It is observed that in the case of jets issuing with the asymmetric boundary layer, the rate of generation of turbulent kinetic energy is higher than the normal jet in the near-field region.
