Abstract
An analysis of externally pressurized gas lubricated conical bearing with discrete point pressure sources in the form of orifices is presented. The governing Reynolds equation over the developed bearing area is solved by direct numerical method to evaluate the pressure distribution for stationary and steady running conditions. Numerical results are presented in the form of non dimensional charts for radial load, thrust load and friction. A comparison of theory and experimental results is made for radial and thrust load capacity of aerostatic conical bearing having the above dimensions.
