Abstract
An analytical method for performance prediction of surface mounted magnet based Variable flux permanent magnet machine is proposed. The mathematical equations and performance prediction algorithm is discussed. Upon applying the superposition of the main field flux component (permanent magnet (PM)) and flux component due to stator excitation (the effect of each phase is considered separately) the stator flux linkage is calculated and the performance of the machine is predicted. The results obtained in this method are compared with finite element simulation results.
