Abstract
A structural investigation using an X-ray RDF (radial distribution function) technique was carried out for a glass of composition 50AgI-25Ag2O-25MoO3 (in mole% units). Results indicated the presence of strong Ag-I interactions at r(Ag-I) = 287 pm and the average number of iodine atoms around an Ag atom, n(Ag-I) was 0.77. Two Ag-O interactions characterized by r(Ag-O) = 197 pm, n(Ag-O) = 1.8 and r(Ag-O) =234 pm, n(Ag-O) =2.6 were also observed. The structural parameters of the glass former MoO3 were given as r(Mo-O) = 198 pm and n(Mo-O) = 5.5. The results showed that AgI was dispersed in the glassy matrix.
