Abstract
A phenomenological model based on Keating's approach is formulated for the calculation of the thermal properties of a fcc crystal. The model is applied to explain the specific heat of the fcc metals Cu, Ag, Pt and Pd and the thermal expansion of Cu and Ag for which the experimental pressure derivatives of the second order elastic constants are available. The results of the present calculations are in good agreement with the experimental data.
