Abstract
The main objective of the present investigation is to study the response of atmospheric plasma sprayed alumina-titania (AT-13) ceramic composite deposits to high frequency impact loading in both as-sprayed and microwave treated conditions. It is found that critical load and duration for the onset of cracking is around 8N and 3 minutes for as-sprayed and 10N and 3 minutes for microwave treated ceramic composite deposits. Predominantly burst mode of acoustic emission (AE) response was observed during impact loading. The dominating frequency of emission is in the range of 100 - 400 kHz for as sprayed and 800-900 kHz for microwave treated deposits.
