Machinability study on pearlitic spheroidal graphite cast iron

In spite of its earlier development, SG iron is finding applications only recently in the automotive sector. This has been attributed to difficulty in the foundry as well as lack of data in its machinability. The present paper illustrates data in the machinability of SG iron with recently developed coated tools. The existence of a critical velocity for the various tools is highlighted in this paper. © 1992 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
