Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to show that Dynamic Mode Decomposition with Control (DMDc), a data-driven modeling and model order reduction technique that has acquired wide popularity recently, can be used for aircraft parameter estimation. We demonstrate the similarity of DMDc to the popular equation error method for parameter estimation of aircraft. Towards comparing the performance of these methods, we carry out a simple aircraft parameter estimation with both equation error method and DMDc using simulated data representing the pure longitudinal motion of a sub-scale jet transport aircraft. We also suggest a minor modification to DMDc to improve its performance in the presence of noisy measurements.
