Abstract
The process of development of airports through Public Private Partnerships (PPP) in the country began with an experiment in Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) in 1993. Subsequently with a new policy, two new greenfield airports were approved and completed for Bangalore (Bengaluru International Airport) and Hyderabad (Rajiv Gandhi Hyderabad International Airport). Roof elements were prefabricated in a precast yard and then erected on site. Prestressed concrete elements made from self compacting concrete (SCC) with a span of 24m, width of 6m and weighing 120t were used. The passenger terminal building is spread over a total floor area of 550000m2 with the building comprising eight floors of the main building and the two pier buildings. The new integrated terminal mainly comprises two buildings - the main passenger terminal, and the international and domestic piers. The curtain wall façade is designed for wind, seismic, and thermal loading to the relevant national and international standards and code of practices.
