Abstract
An approach to solve for the resonance frequency of fluid-loaded structures was recently suggested by McCollum and Siders [J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 99, 1949-1957 (1996)]. An iterative procedure was suggested to solve for eigenfrequencies by reducing the problem to the standard eigenvalue problem. Using an example of a single degree of freedom system with a piston radiating in fluid, it is shown that the proposed method can lead to incorrect-results. (C) 1997 Acoustical Society of America.
