Abstract
A wide band dual arm archimedean slot spiral antenna with coplanar waveguide feed was designed and tested for partial discharge detection. Antenna was designed for wide band response over 0.5-3 GHz. Numerical simulations of antenna return loss were compared with the measurements of the fabricated antenna. The fabricated wide band antenna was used to detect partial discharge (PD) emissions from a mineral oil test cell connected to 5 kVA 50 Hz transformer. Partial discharge signals captured by the ultra high frequency slot spiral antenna indicated spectral content of 0.5-3 GHz for corona discharge.
