Abstract
The paper discusses a DSTATCOM topology for compensating ac loads in the three-phase, four-wire systems as well as supplying dc loads from its dc link. Its state space modeling is presented. The transient response of the compensator is very important while compensating dynamically varying loads. Any change in the load affects the dc link voltage directly. Generally, a closed loop proportional integral controller is used to maintain the dc link voltage which has slow transient response. To achieve a good dynamic response, a fast acting dc link voltage controller is proposed. Mathematical equations are given to design the controller parameters. A digital simulation study using MATLAB, is carried out to demonstrate the performance of the proposed fast acting dc link voltage controller over the conventional one. © 2008 IEEE.
