Abstract
An empirical correlation based on available experimental saturated liquid viscosity data is presented for 10 refrigerants of the methane family, viz: R10, 11, 12, 13, 13B1, 20, 21, 22, 23 and 30, an azeotrope R500 and two refrigerants of the ethane family viz: R114 and 115. The correlation shows that the square root of the reduced fluidity, i.e. (1/ηD) 1 2 is a linear function of reduced temperature (TD). The dimensional reduced viscosity is calculated as ηVc 2 3/[M(Tc-Tf)] 1 2 and the non-dimensional reduced temperature as (T-Tf)/(Tc-Tf), where the subscripts c and f refer to critical and normal freezing points. Correlations are given for each of the refrigerants mentioned above and for groups of refrigerants. It is observed that methane and ethane do not correspond with the refrigerants in respective families. © 1985.
