Abstract
In the spline finite strip method (SFSM), a prismatic member is discretized into a number of strips, along the longitudinal direction with a number of segment knots along each strip. While using cubic splines in this method, two additional dummy knots are required beyond the boundary of the actual member. These dummy knots increase the degrees of freedom and the memory requirements. In this paper, a set of amendments for the spline series is proposed, depending upon the boundary conditions. This amendment schemes help to eliminate the dummy knots. There can be considerable reduction in the degrees of freedom (DOF) and the storage requirements, by using these amendments in the SFSM. A few numerical problems are solved to show the efficiency of these amendments.
