Microstructures, mechanical properties and possible applications of nanostructured materials

The consolidation techniques, microstructures and mechanical properties of nanocrystalline metallic as well as ceramic materials are considered. Areas of consensus and of disagreement have been indicated. Some attention has been paid to nanocrystalline high melting point compounds. One and two dimensional nanoscale materials as well as hybrid microstructures are discussed. Finally, possible areas in which nanocrystalline materials can find application have been enumerated.
