MODEL TESTING OF THE HIPPED PLATE FLOOR OF A MULTISTOREYED BUILDING.

This paper describes the model testing of the hipped plate floor of a multistoryed building. This floor which supports all the other floors above, is of an overlapping, hollow, inverted, pyramidal construction and is supported only by a single row of rectangular hollow box columns. From the model tests, valuable information regarding the state of the stress, stress flow at critical sections, share of load taken by various columns, etc. , under symmetrical and unsymmetrical loadings were determined to aid the design and detailing of the building.
