Abstract
Solvents are passive players that influence the reaction rate and order of a reaction with a wide range of applications in almost every sector. Today, surplus usage and an increasing demand of commercial solvents consequently increase the risk to living organisms and their environment. Also, inefficient celerity toward the processing of waste generated by chemical processes is more challenging. Therefore, determining usable, environmentally acceptable, commercial green solvents is the best practice for avoiding hazardous organic solvents. The main interest in proposing green solvents is to reduce environmental pollution by replacing conventional nongreen solvents with those of identical efficiency. In this chapter, we address and briefly elaborate desirable and commercially available green solvents such as water, alcohols, ionic liquids, supercritical CO2, and liquid polymers.
