Abstract
The major components of guillotine shear, both an over-crank and an under-crank, including the two side-stands, the bottom connecting plate, the hold-down and the top connecting plate are examined critically for rigidity and strength whilst the shear is in operation. The moving blade-carrier holding the cutting blade is also investigated when it is subjected to a complex system of cutting forces and reactions from the adjoining plates. The objective of this study is to evaluate critically the role of different elements such as side-stands and the blade carrier.
