Abstract
A new method was developed for producing hydroxyapatite (HA) or biphasic calcium phosphate ceramics (CPC) containing multilayer chitosan films. The chitosan film was formed by dissolving chitosan in aqueous acetic acid solution and the filtered solution was cast into a Petri dish. The films were characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), x-ray powder diffraction method, thermal analysis and scanning electron microscopy. The visual examination of the three types of chitosan films indicates uniform distribution of HA in the film.
