Abstract
This paper aims to explain the process of developing an instrument which could be used to measure emotional intelligence (EI) of a workplace. It proposes the various factors required in measuring the EI of a workplace and differentiates this from the numerous measures used to measure individual EI. It attempts to further the measures of EI beyond just individual measures to overall collective measures. It uses the measures for individual EI and extrapolates and expands it onto workplace EI. There is limited research in measuring the EI of the workplace and this paper is limited by that. Researchers are encouraged to test this concept further so as to create a new mass of research on EI of a group. There are some practical implications of this paper. Corporates can consider testing the EI in their organisation and use this instrument for that process. In addition to that there is the aspect of training for EI in an organisation by focusing on the factors that contribute to its enhancement in the workplace.
