Abstract
Results of Finite element simulation of shear punch test carried out using elasto-plastic analysis in conjunction with the Gurson-Tvergaard-Needleman (GTN) damage model to simulate the yield, ultimate and fracture regimes of both the small and shear punch tests using commercial finite element code ABAQUS (R) is presented. Five pressure vessel steels have been selected for conducting shear punch test, small punch test and for simulation. Several aspects involved in the modeling and implementation of the damage model in the simulation are discussed. Further, the effects of various process parameters like clamping force, clearance are studied using the numerical model.
