Abstract
This paper details the studies on abrasive water jet machining of black granite with local garnet abrasives (origin southern India). Design of experiments using L27 orthogonal array and ANOVA analysis helped in the determination of significant cutting parameters. The influence of abrasive particle size distribution along with process parameters like pressure, traverse rate, abrasive flow rate has been studied on the target parameters like depth of cut, surface roughness at three sections (upper, middle and lower) and American Foundrymen's Society. Fineness number for the particles collected at nozzle exit and after cutting. Response equations are developed for the target parameters.
