Abstract
This study reports the synthesis of Ferro boron coatings deposited over AISI 304L austenitic stainless steel substrate using D-Gun (Detonation gun) technique. The microstructure, adhesion and wear properties of the coating were investigated using X-ray diffraction, optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, micro-hardness measurements and pin-on-disc wear tests. Hardness of the coated surface was found to increase from 350 HV to about 1600 HV on laser modification. The effect of laser treatment on the microstructural modification of coating is also described. © 2010 TIIM, India.
