Material response in extrusion honing

The extrusion honing of SG iron parts using a laboratory preparing grade of abrasive carrier medium was discussed. The extrusion honing of SG cast iron internal surface was carried out using a select grade of polymeric medium. The observed higher magnitude of compressive residual stresses during the later phase of honing was attributed to glazing of surface. This was supported by a reduction of the root mean square of acoustic emission signal monitored.
