EVALUATION OF MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF GREEN COMPACTS OF BRASS CHIPS AS COMPARED TO POWDER COMPACTS.

Investigations have been made of a method for recycling brass chips using P/M techniques. Development of a commercially viable process was attempted. A comparison of green density and green compressive strength of chip compacts with those of commercially available powder compacts is presented. The brass chips used contained 85. 15% Cu, 0. 14% Sn, 2. 5% Pb, 1. 39% Fe and 10. 82% Zn. Commercial alloy brass powder of composition 90% Cu, 10% Zn was used for comparison.
