Abstract
High-Speed chemiluminescence is used to study the dynamics of precursors to blow out of a shear layer stabilized flame. The flame stabilized on a splitter plate and a thin metal sheet is studied in detail. Different materials (SS and copper) are used for the flame holders, and also two fuels, LPG and CH4 are used. Shape of local lifted flame was decided by the Lewis number and differential diffusion effects. The blowout limits were decided by heat loss to the flame holders, and the velocity in the wake. It is observed that the number and duration of precursors vary with fuel, plate material and material thickness. This suggests that there is a coupled effect of these parameters on the blowout dynamics.
