Abstract
The present work describes the development of microstructure, texture and mechanical properties of a 70% unidirectionally hot rolled metastable β-titanium alloy Ti-5Al-5Mo-5V-3Cr (Ti-5553). The alloy Ti-5553 displays two-phase microstructure consisting of fine globular α phase within the β matrix. Microstructure also reveals the presence of recrystallized grains and in-grain shear bands. Texture present in this specimen mainly consists of the recrystallized components. Tensile properties exhibit the mechanical properties anisotropy. The yield and ultimate tensile strengths are maximum along transverse while elongation is maximum along rolling directions. These values indicate the presence of mechanical property anisotropy in the material.
