Abstract
We propose some enhancements to the building model, Wi-Fi channel and interference models in the network simulator ns-3 with an aim to recreate realistic channel and interference conditions for network simulations. The performance of a Wi-Fi link is largely determined by the signal strength of the intended transmission and other Wi-Fi and non Wi-Fi interferers. In this work, we propose a floor plan based building loss model, a packet trace based channel quality model, and a stochastic (Markov) model for aggregate interference that helps model the link quality behaviour (intended signal and interference) as observed in real experiments. We also propose a fair queue and weighted channel access mechanism for Wi-Fi MAC to simulate networks supporting flows with different QoS demands. Using simulations, we highlight the utility of the proposed models and their relevance in the design and planning of indoor Wi-Fi networks and RRM algorithms.
