Abstract
This paper deals with the analysis, simulation, and implementation of a DC drive fed from a buck frequency modulated, zero voltage switching, quasi-resonant converter (FM-ZVS-QRC) operating in both half-wave and full-wave modes. The results of ZVS and ZCS QRC-fed DC drive systems are compared. The entire closed-loop system is simulated using PSPICE, and the results are presented. A prototype ZVS-QRC-fed DC drive system is implemented, and the results obtained from the computer simulation are in agreement with the experimental ones. It is observed that the QRC-fed DC drives have several advantages over those fed from phase-controlled converters, DC choppers, and PWM converters.
