Abstract
The interference effects on the pressure distribution on the various faces of prismatic bodies in tandem arrangement are presented in this paper. Bodies with square cross-section and height to width ratio (h/b) of 1 and 5 are considered. These sizes respectively are typical of low-rise and high-rise category of buildings. The bodies are exposed to a velocity profile satisfying the 1/7th power law. The results show that the interference effects are in general more severe for the taller body. For this case, when the bodies are in close proximity, the rear body experiences a negative drag force or a thrust force. For both sizes the interference effects persists even at sufficiently large spacings between the bodies. Flow visualisation results presented give a physical insight on this complex flow situation.
